Lesson Overview
About this worksheet
To add or subtract mixed numbers, give the fractions a common denominator, work the fractions and whole numbers separately, and regroup a whole when the top fraction is too small to subtract. This worksheet teaches the method and has students compute and simplify.
The reference box and Section A are on page 1. The reference box works one addition example with unlike denominators and one subtraction example that borrows. Section A has six problems. Section B on page 2 has four word problems.
Page 3 is a complete answer key with simplified, worked answers for every problem. The worksheet pairs well with the Adding Fractions with Unlike Denominators and Ordering Fractions worksheets.
