Using Elementary Lesson Plans in Class
These lesson plans are designed to drop into a classroom with minimal prep. A few suggestions that maximize their value:
- Read the full plan before teaching – the teaching steps assume you’ve previewed the printable student activity
- Use lessons in sequence within a topic rather than picking and choosing – the order is intentional
- Pair the printable activity with classroom discussion; the worksheet alone is not the lesson
- Adapt the examples to your students’ interests – the structure is fixed, but the content can be localized
- Use the ‘What Students Practice’ section on each subtopic page to plan a multi-week unit rather than a single lesson
- Save student work samples – lesson plans are most useful when revisited each year and refined based on what worked
