Lesson Overview

About this worksheet

A subject pronoun does the action in a sentence (I, you, he, she, it, we, they); an object pronoun receives the action or follows a preposition (me, you, him, her, it, us, them). Knowing which to use – I or me, he or him, we or us – is one of the most useful grammar skills, and this worksheet gives students direct practice both choosing and labeling.

Section A gives eight sentences with two pronoun choices (She/Her, he/him, We/Us) and asks students to write the correct one. The set covers subject position (She ran), object-of-verb position (gave it to him), and object-of-preposition position (sit next to me). The reference box teaches the rule and the say-it-alone trick but uses different example sentences.

Section B reverses the task: students label whether an underlined pronoun is a subject or an object in six sentences. Page 3 is a complete answer key. The skill is the foundation for correct pronoun use in writing and speech.

How to Use This Lesson

Read the reference box aloud and list the subject and object pronouns in two columns.

Complete Section A independently – have students ask ‘is this pronoun doing the action or receiving it?’

Work Section B item 9 together: SHE plays the violin – she is doing the action, so it is a subject.

Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check or teacher review.

Pair with the Pronouns Worksheet or the Pronoun-Antecedent Agreement Worksheet for a pronoun mini-unit.
