Lesson Overview

About this worksheet

A reflexive pronoun ends in -self or -selves and refers back to the subject of the sentence, so the same person or thing both does and receives the action. The reflexive pronouns are myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, and themselves. This worksheet teaches students to match a reflexive pronoun to its subject.

Section A gives eight sentences with a blank (she fixed the bike by ____; we packed the lunches ____) and asks students to write the correct reflexive pronoun. The reference box teaches the skill with ‘I taught myself’ and ‘They helped themselves’ examples not reused in the items.

Section B asks students to use ‘himself’ in a sentence, name the endings all reflexive pronouns share, match a reflexive pronoun to the subject ‘we’, and use ‘yourself’ with its subject. Page 3 is a complete answer key. The skill pairs naturally with subject and object pronouns.

How to Use This Lesson

Read the reference box aloud and pair each subject (I, we, they) with its reflexive pronoun.

Complete Section A independently – have students find the subject first, then match.

Work Section B item 9 together: write a class sentence using ‘himself’.

Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check or teacher review.

Pair with the Pronouns Worksheet or the Indefinite Pronouns Worksheet for a pronoun mini-unit.
