Lesson Overview
What Is a Preposition?
A preposition is a word that links a noun or pronoun to another part of the sentence. It usually shows position (under the table), direction (to the store), or time (before dinner). The noun or pronoun that follows is called the object of the preposition, and together they form a prepositional phrase.
Common prepositions include about, above, across, after, against, around, at, before, behind, below, beside, between, by, down, for, from, in, into, near, of, off, on, over, through, to, under, up, with. Students often mix up prepositions with other parts of speech, so this lesson uses clear example sentences and a simple identification worksheet to build recognition.
