About this worksheet
Adding s to show more than one is the first spelling rule a child meets in grammar, and the first place they meet an exception to one. Both belong on the same page: a rule with no counter-example teaches a child to apply it everywhere.
Every picture shows a GROUP, so the child can see more than one before naming it. Section A is five words that simply add s, and Section B is four that do not, including one that does not change at all. The word bank holds every answer, so the child is deciding which form is right rather than inventing a spelling.
The answer key on page three gives the plural for every picture and a sample sentence for each of the two prompts in Section C.
How to Use This Lesson
Print the worksheet. The word bank is in the box on page one.
Say a few pairs aloud together first: one cat, two cats.
Point out that the Section B words break the pattern before students start it.
Check the answers against page three.
