About this worksheet
A naming word names a person, a place, or a thing, and that is the first grammar idea a child meets. Every other part of speech is defined against it later, so it is worth teaching before a child can read the words themselves.
Nothing on this worksheet has to be decoded. Section A gives five pictures and a three-word bank; Section B is a cut-and-paste sort with three labelled boxes and nine picture tiles, three for each box, so the counts never give the sort away.
The answer key on page three names every picture beside its category, and lists the three tiles that belong in each box.
How to Use This Lesson
Print the worksheet. The word bank is in the box on page one.
Read the three words aloud together before students begin.
For Section B, cut the tiles apart along the dashed lines first.
Check the answers against page three.
