About this worksheet
An intensive pronoun ends in -self or -selves and emphasizes a noun or pronoun, such as ‘the principal herself.’ It can be removed without breaking the sentence, while a reflexive pronoun looks the same but is needed as the object. This worksheet teaches students to tell the two apart with a simple removal test.
Section A on page 1 gives eight sentences, and students decide whether the bold -self pronoun is intensive or reflexive. The reference box teaches the removal test with a different example, so the assessed items stay independent of the model.
Section B on page 2 asks students to explain what an intensive pronoun does, describe the removal test, classify one more example, and write a sentence of their own. Page 3 is a complete answer key with sample answers. The skill builds on reflexive and possessive pronouns.
