About this worksheet
Every sentence carries a job, and the end mark is how the writer tells the reader which job it is. A period quiets a telling sentence. A question mark lifts the voice into a question. An exclamation point lets the reader feel surprise or strong feeling. Students who choose end marks well start to hear sentences in their head the way good readers do.
Section A is a 12-item drill in a compact four-column grid. Each item is a short sentence missing its end mark, and students write a period, question mark, or exclamation point on the line. Section B raises the difficulty: eight sentences without any end mark at all. Students rewrite each sentence on the line with the correct mark added in the right place.
Page 2 is a complete answer key in a compact two-column grid for fast spot-checking, and the Section B answers print on full-width lines so the rewritten sentences read cleanly. The reference box on page 1 shows the three end marks side by side with a short telling, asking, and exclamation example.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and act out a telling, an asking, and an excited voice so students can hear the difference each end mark makes.
Work Section A together as a quick five-minute warm-up; each item is just one short sentence plus an end mark.
Move to Section B and read item 13 aloud; show students how the meaning of the sentence tells you which end mark to use.
Use the answer key on page 2 for self-check or aide spot-check.
Pair with the Types of Sentences Worksheet or Capitalization printable for an end-mark-and-capitalization combo block.
