About this worksheet
Correlative conjunctions are conjunctions that work in pairs to join words, phrases, or ideas – either/or, neither/nor, both/and, not only/but also, and whether/or. Each pair must be used together, and the two parts should be in the same form. This worksheet teaches students to complete the pairs correctly.
Section A gives eight items with the first half of a correlative pair and asks students to write the missing partner word. The reference box teaches the idea with ‘either … or’ and ‘neither … nor’ example sentences, while Section A asks for the partner word, the by-design skill.
Section B asks students to define correlative conjunctions, use ‘both … and’ in a sentence, explain why the joined parts should match in form, and use ‘either … or.’ Page 3 is a complete answer key. The skill strengthens balanced sentences.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and recite the five common pairs together.
Complete Section A independently – have students say each pair aloud to hear the partner.
Work Section B item 10 together: write a sentence using ‘both … and’.
Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check or teacher review.
Pair with the Conjunctions Worksheet or the Compound Sentences Worksheet for a parts-of-speech mini-unit.
