About this worksheet
Some words sound alike but mean different things, and mixing them up is one of the most common writing errors. This worksheet targets the sets students confuse most: their/there/they’re, your/you’re, its/it’s, and to/too/two. The reference box gives a clear meaning for each and a contraction test – if you can say ‘they are,’ ‘you are,’ or ‘it is,’ use the apostrophe form.
Section A gives eight sentences, each with two or three look-alike choices, and asks students to write the correct word. The set spreads across all four confusing groups so students practice each one. The reference box explains every word with its own examples not reused as items.
Section B raises the difficulty: each of four sentences uses the wrong word, and students rewrite it correctly. Page 3 is a complete answer key. The skill removes the most frequent surface errors from student writing.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and practice the contraction test: can you say ‘they are’ or ‘it is’?
Complete Section A independently – have students try the test before choosing.
Work Section B item 1 together: ‘Their going to the park’ should be ‘They’re’ (they are going).
Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check or teacher review.
