About this worksheet
An adverb of frequency tells how often something happens. From most often to least often, common ones are always, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, and never, and they sit on a scale from every time down to not at all. They usually come right before the main verb. This worksheet helps students spot these adverbs and place them on the frequency scale.
Section A on page 1 gives eight sentences and asks students to write the adverb of frequency in each one. The reference box teaches the idea with brushing-teeth and sunrise examples that are not reused in any item.
Section B on page 2 asks students what these adverbs tell, to order three of them, and to write sentences using always and rarely. Page 3 is a complete answer key with sample answers. The skill builds toward describing routines and habits clearly.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and place the example adverbs on the always-to-never scale.
Complete Section A independently – have students find the word that answers ‘how often?’
Work Section B item 11 together: write a sentence about yourself using always.
Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check; Section B answers will vary.
Pair with the Adverbs Worksheet or the Comparative Adverbs Worksheet.
