About this worksheet
An adverb clause is a dependent clause that acts like an adverb, telling when, where, why, how, or under what condition something happens. It begins with a subordinating conjunction such as because, when, if, although, or after, has its own subject and verb, and cannot stand alone. This worksheet has students locate the whole clause.
The reference box and Section A are on page 1. Section A has eight sentences, and students write the adverb clause in each one. The reference box teaches the idea with different example clauses, so the eight items stay independent of the model.
Section B on page 2 has four short-response questions, including writing a sentence that includes an adverb clause. Page 3 is a complete answer key with sample answers. This worksheet completes the clause-type set alongside the Noun Clauses Worksheet.
How to Use This Lesson
Read the reference box aloud and underline the subordinating conjunction in each example.
Complete Section A on page 1 independently, writing each adverb clause.
Discuss what each clause tells (when, why, or under what condition).
Use the answer key on page 3 for self-check.
Pair with the Noun Clauses Worksheet or the Subordinating Conjunctions Worksheet.
