7th Grade ELA Bell Ringers — Week 1

Five short warm-ups for 7th grade ELA: the building blocks of a sentence, and how they combine. 20 items with a full answer key — one focused task a day, five to ten minutes at the start of the lesson.

What is in this week

Phrases and Clauses — the building blocks of a sentence, and how they combine. Every day is one focused task, four items, with the rule printed at the top of the page.

  • Monday — Phrase or clause? Write one word.
  • Tuesday — Independent or dependent clause? Write one word.
  • Wednesday — Name the phrase type: prepositional, participial, appositive, or infinitive.
  • Thursday — Write the dependent clause from each sentence.
  • Friday — Simple, compound, or complex? Write one word.

How to use it

Print the packet once and hand out one page a day, or project it. Students can start before the lesson begins because the rule they need is on the page. Friday is a cumulative check on the same focus. Mark them together on the board; these are a warm-up, not something to collect.
