Procedure:
- Read lesson and discuss examples.
- Allow students time to complete the exercises.
- Discuss answers to exercises.
Students should read the lesson, and complete the worksheet. As an option, teachers may
also use the lesson as part of a classroom lesson plan.
Excerpt from Lesson:
A VERB is a word that shows action or a state of being. Every sentence needs a verb. In fact, the verb is probably the most important word in the sentence. The whole meaning of a sentence depends on the action or state of being. In other words, the whole meaning of the sentence depends on the verb!
Words like run, jump, sing, walk, stand, sit and play are verbs. You can see that these words show action. They are something you can do. The SUBJECT of a sentence does this action.
Verbs can also show a state of being. For example, in the sentence:
I am in third grade.
