SPELL ME!

A spelling game for two to four players.

Children use dice to move about a lettered board. When they land on a letter, they have to spell a word beginning with that letter chosen by another team member.

  • Spelling skills

SPELL ME WORD GAME LESSON PLAN

 

Materials

  • Spell Me Game - Printable lesson plan.

  • A piece of paper or card measuring 28cm X 28cm
  • A smaller piece of card for the counters
  • A ruler
  • A pencil and colored pens
  • A dice
  • A dictionary
  • Scrap paper for keeping score

Children will need to be of similar spelling abilities and the dictionary used should be appropriate to their spelling ability.

This is a fairly simple game to make but care needs to be taken with the number instructions – the boards needs to be numbered in a zigzag fashion like a snakes and ladders board. Children who don't read the instructions carefully tend to number each line from left to right.

Excerpt from Lesson:

  1. Divide the paper up into 49 squares. To do this measure along each edge making a small mark every 4cm. Join the marks at the top to the marks at the bottom of the page with a ruler. Next, join the marks on the left side to the marks on the right of the page with a ruler. You should now have a grid of 49 squares.
