THE MISPLACED PEARLS

 

An elementary reading comprehension printable worksheet on a story about a detective and missing pearls. The story is appropriate for individual or guided reading.  Use this lesson to help build reading skills and reading readiness.

 

Objectives:

  • The student will be able to read a short story to his/her self and answer comprehension questions based on information from the story.

Suggested Grades - Reading Level:

THE MISPLACED PEARLS READING WORKSHEET

 

Directions:

Print The Misplaced Pearls reading comprehension passage and questions (see below).

 

The students will be asked to read the short story and answer the questions that follow. Students with special needs may need to have the story and questions read aloud to them.

Directions to Students:
Read the story, paying attention to the details. Then answer the questions. Look back at the story to help you find the answers!

 

 

Text from the story:

"But I wanted to wear the pearls tonight," said Betty Finch. "Where could they be?"

"Don't worry Mrs. Finch," said Detective Nash. He was visiting his friends, the Finches. "I'll find your necklace," he said. "Look, here is a clue." He pointed to a white, powdery fingerprint on the safe. "Who else knows that the safe is here?"

"My family, my butler, my cook, and my maid," said Mrs. Finch. "My maid, Betty, likes the pearls a lot. Maybe she took them."
