below).
The students will be asked to read the short story and answer the questions that follow. Students with special needs may need to have the story and questions read aloud to them.
Text from the story:
"We're going to play by the river, Mom," Jack said.
"OK," Mom said. "Don't get lost. Make sure you can always see the tent."
"We will," Becky said.
Jack and Becky picked up their pails and walked down a path. When they got to the river, Becky looked up the hill behind her. She could see the top of their red tent.
"I can see it, Jack," she said.
"Good." Jack filled his pail with water. "I'm going to catch some tadpoles," he said.
"Look!" Becky said. "There's one."
Becky and Jack searched for tadpoles all morning. The sun was hot. Becky stepped into the water. It was over her knees.
