Procedure:
Students should read the lesson, and complete the worksheet. As an option, teachers may
also use the lesson as part of a classroom lesson plan.
Excerpt from Lesson:
In the extract below, Natalie and Kyle have heard a strange noise coming from an empty house. Read the extract carefully.
“There it is again!” whispered Natalie. Kyle pressed his ear to the door of the house and listened. There was a high-pitched whining sound coming from somewhere in the house.
“I think it's a dog,” Kyle said. “And it sounds like it's in pain. Come on, there's a broken window round the back.”
Natalie followed Kyle to the back of the house. There was a small window with a broken pane on the first floor. Kyle picked up a piece of wood and began to knock out the broken glass. He laid his coat over the jagged edge before climbing carefully onto the windowsill. Natalie watched as he climbed through the window, and then dropped onto the floor below.
“Come on,” he called. “It's all right.”
