INTRODUCTION TO MUSIC:
KEYBOARD FAMILY

This lesson will introduce students to the keyboard family. Includes printable teaching reading comprehension lesson worksheets.

 

Objectives:

  • Illustrate the piano and discuss briefly
  • Illustrate the harpsichord and discuss briefly
  • Illustrate the organ and discuss briefly
  • Illustrate the synthesizer and discuss briefly

Suggested Grades:

1st Grade - 2nd Grade - 3rd Grade

 

  

 

KEYBOARD FAMILY LESSON

 

Directions:

Print the Keyboard Family reading comprehension passage and questions (see below).

 

Students should read the passage silently, then answer the questions.  Teachers may also use the text as part of a classroom lesson plan.

 

Lesson Excerpt

There are several instruments included in the keyboard family.  Some of these are the piano, harpsichord, organ, and synthesizer.  This is what a keyboard looks like up close.  Notice the white keys and black keys.  Each key has a different sound.  

Piano

This is what a piano looks like.  The piano is the most common keyboard instrument.  It has been around for over 300 years.  The piano makes noise when hammers hit the strings inside the piano.
