Materials


Procedure:

Students should read the lesson, and complete the worksheet. As an option, teachers may also use the lesson as part of a classroom lesson plan.


Excerpt from Lesson:

In the extract below, Alexia and Paul are struggling to control their boat.

Read the extract carefully.

       “Grab the rope,” Alexia bellowed into the wind. Paul grabbed but missed. He grabbed again and caught hold of the heavy, wet rope. It began to slip through his fingers, burning the palm of his hand. He held on tight. “Tie it to the mast,” Alexia yelled. Paul struggled to tie the knot. His fingers were numb with cold and his feet skidded on the slippery deck as the boat lurched and jolted.
