LESSON 2: CREATING CHARACTERS

 

Lesson 2:

Creating Characters

 

Goal: To familiarize students with the process by which authors create characters.

 

Objective: Students will be able to describe the features and purpose of a character sketch and will be able to apply this knowledge to the creation of an original character sketch.

CREATIVE WRITING: PARTS OF A STORY

 

Procedure:


1. Read and discuss the lesson with students.  The lesson may be printed from that page.


2. Provide copies of the activity page (below) for students to complete.


3. Have students share their responses to the items on the activity page.


4. Provide feedback for student responses.

 

 

Student Assessment:

Completion of (1) an original plot for the character sketch provided and (2) an original character sketch based on questions from the activity page.
