Teachers
-- introduce adjectives to the students by
having them think of three words that describe
a puppy and an elephant. Write them on the
board. Most of these will be adjectives. (Ex.
soft, cute, large, grey.)

: Adjective
An adjective
is a word that describes a noun (person, place,
or thing).
Adjectives can tell how something
looks, tastes, feels or sounds. Adjectives
answer questions like: How many? How big?
What kind? Which?

find the adjectives in the following sentences.
Example
1:
"On a warm, sunny day, Alex swam in the
cold, blue lake.
(warm and sunny describes day; the, cold,
blue describes lake.)
Example
2:
"The smiling girl ran to the biggest
dog.
(smiling tells what kind of girl; the biggest
describes dog.)
Example
3:
"Mr. Smith bought four red apples, three
oranges, and two ripe bananas."
(four, red tells what kind of apple; three
tells how many oranges, and two, ripe tells
what kind of bananas.)
